“If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door”. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the man behind the quote, Milton Berle was America’s first major television star. Being a comedian, he may have said this as a joke, but this quote has inspired me (and many others) to be proactive. This phrase has helped me in school, business, and with my pain.
I love this quote because my life motto is “Work Hard”, and I think that’s what this quote is basically saying. You can’t wait for opportunities to come to you, or you may never accomplish anything. Instead, build a door for opportunity to knock on! Doing poorly in school? Talk to your teacher and get some tutoring so the next time you have an opportunity to do well on a test, you can take it. Can’t find a job? Update your resume, practice your interviewing skills, and start networking. When you create your next opportunity to get a job, you’ll be far more likely to be considered. And when you’re in debilitating pain? Research new medication options, try physical therapy, and talk openly with your doctor. You’ll create more opportunities to feel better.
I don’t have any sympathy for people who complain about not getting a certain opportunity in life, or just opportunities in general. We make our own opportunities. We build our own doors. Or at least I do. What about you?
